The Council of Ministers (COM) yesterday also approved for the government to pay risk allowance to 430 Vanuatu Police Force (VPF) members and civilian staff who worked during Operation Tahara after the 2024 earthquake.

The Council of Ministers (COM) yesterday also approved for the government to pay risk allowance to 430 Vanuatu Police Force (VPF) members and civilian staff who worked during Operation Tahara after the 2024 earthquake.

According to the government, the total claim for these allowances amounts to VT109,300,000 and there are three main categories of payments that will be considered one-off and final payments

COM instructed the Ministry of Finance to include these claims in the Supplementary Budget.

Nearly 400 health workers who have worked after the earthquake stood down from work last year demanding that the government pay their risk allowance at VT300,000 each, not VT27,000. The government agreed to pay them.
